This is for every resident of Bosham and the surrounding area!! If you do not want Bosham Fire Station to close you need to join together and help the firefighters at the station to put forward your views and concerns to the Chief Fire Officer and elected officials at any meetings that will be arranged in the near future. There will be a 12 week public consultation period starting on July 19th for any case against the closure to be made and for the public to hear the reason for the proposed closure. The Bosham Fire crew are currently putting together some basic information and will be distributing posters and leaflets for you the Bosham residents to read and display. Please help the firefighters in their Hour of need. Save our station as we're here to save you! |

Fire Station proposed for Closure. I am another firefighter from Bosham and I am proud of the service we provide to our community and the surounding areas. The proposals talk alot of "fire resiliance" I understand that smoke detectors fitted into all new properties and the fitting of aftermarket detectors by ourselves within the service helps to reduce the life risk but these devices do not stop your house from burning to the ground or help you escape if you are in dificulty "we do" the firefighters that attend. And if our station closes let me furnish you with some information. The service says Chichester can cover Bosham? but Chichester is the 3rd busiest station in the county and only has one full time crew. the other crew is retained as we are and cannot be taken for granted that it will always be available, we have had to support Chichester in their hour of need on many occasions and provided cover for not only Bosham but Chichester too when they have been attending calls. So who will provide the cover when and if we go? Bognor? Midhurst? seems a long way when you are standing watching your house burn! or worse stuck trapped in the house waiting to be rescued. But of course they will "get help from Hampshire fire and rescue" or will they? West Sussex has no control over Hampshire appliances and remember Emsworth is retained too so they would not even know if the truck is available or not, and Havant again is a busy station although full time has the whole of Leigh park Havant Bedhampton and Farlington to cover. We need your support so please send in you objections to the local mp and support us at the consultations. We do not want the station to close we want to protect you and our community. |

I live really close to the fire station, and I know a lot of people who are interested in saving it. I certainly feel that Bosham needs to keep the fire station, not only because of the lives it will save, but also because the fire station is one of the last few places in Bosham that is part of the community, as we are increasingly becoming a holiday town for weekend visitors. I think that there would be a great deal of support if people knew what to do about saving the station, but I feel that most people don't know what to do to help. This is a situation where we need to bring the community together and make everyone take an interest. Perhaps we could get the school to do a play, and gather people together to do different events to raise money (?would that help?) and certainly raise awareness of the importance of keeping the station in the community. I am full of ideas but not really sure who to direct them at. If anyone knows who I can contact to get help launching these ideas then please let me know! |

Like me I Hope many residents attended the West Sussex Fire & Rescue Consultation Meeting at Fishbourne Club last night and if you did I am sure you came away horrified that the Senior Fire Officer seems to think that although Bosham has had a fire station for 80-90 years? it is now not needed! He feels that the ever increasing population in Bosham should be able to sleep soundly in their beds knowing that if the fire station closes it will only take 12-14 minutes for a fire engine to attend their house in the middle of the night when possibly themselves or loved ones are trapped. I thought the fire service would have realised that a smouldering fire can turn into a raging inferno within 5-6 minutes. This is not only very worrying indeed but totally ludicrous. People of Bosham you must make your feelings known. Why should we suffer beacuse the fire service want to increase cover in deprived areas such as Crawley? |

A bit of disturbing news folks, Bosham Fire Station IS closing according to the local rag. Apparently someone in the council has made his decision and the station will be closed by next spring. Yet another sign that gradually the local area is in terminal decline. We are losing the amenities in our local area as the holiday homes take over and local council tax base is reduced. When will people wake up to the fact that the local economy can not be sustained if we allow more part-time residents who pay little or no council tax in the Chichester District! |

What did you do to save the fire station Ron, you seem very skilled and telling us the ills, what are the solutions then. On the housing front for every 'incomer' who dares to buy a house there is a local who sells it to them, I have never seen a seller say No No give £100,000 less. |
